Welcome to Year 6!
This year is an exciting and busy one for our Year 6 pupils as they prepare for the next stage of their education. Throughout the year, we will develop their knowledge, confidence and independence through a broad and engaging curriculum.
In English, pupils will explore a range of exciting and thought-provoking texts, including A Christmas Carol, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Henry's Freedom Box. They will develop their reading, writing, vocabulary and discussion skills, alongside poetry, non-fiction and creative writing. We will also be working towards our end-of-year production throughout the year.
In Maths, pupils will build on their understanding of number, calculation, fractions, decimals and percentages before moving on to geometry, algebra, measure, statistics, ratio and proportion. There will also be opportunities throughout the year to revisit key knowledge and prepare for the Year 6 SATs.
Our Science learning will cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics, while History and Geography will encourage pupils to investigate the world around them. Topics include the impact of World War II on people in Britain, local history and census information, changing populations, energy and independent fieldwork enquiries.
Across the wider curriculum, pupils will enjoy Art, Design Technology, RE, Spanish, Music and PSHE, developing their creativity, practical skills, understanding of different beliefs and cultures, and personal and social skills.
Trips and Special Events
Year 6 have lots to look forward to this year, including trips and special events such as the Christmas Concert, library visits, a Holocaust guest speaker, SATs Fun Day, Sports Day, a Triathlon, our Leavers' Assembly and an end-of-year trip.
Reading at Home
We appreciate that it is not always possible to read every night with your child, but we do ask that you make every effort to read at least 5 times per week with them. Reading at home doesn’t always mean their school reading books, it could be anything from a newspaper, magazine, kindle books to instructions of a board game!

P.E.
P.E days this year are Tuesday and Wednesday.
On P.E. days please bring your P.E. kit in a bag. PE kit consists of: a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black PE pumps. Children may wear plain black jogging pants and a jumper in the colder months if they go outside.
Water bottles & snacks
Don’t forget to bring water bottles in each day - it is important for the children to stay hydrated throughout the day. Please put a label on bottles and refill them every day. Children can purchase bread sticks at the start of each half term (see the school office) or bring a healthy, nut-free snack for break time.
