Welcome to Reception! We are delighted to welcome you and your child to the beginning of their exciting school journey. Reception is a happy, nurturing and stimulating place where children are encouraged to explore, discover, make new friends and develop their confidence. Through play, creativity and exciting learning experiences, we help every child grow, learn and thrive in a safe and caring environment. We look forward to sharing this wonderful year of learning and discovery with you!
Homework and Online Learning Journal
Your child's learning journey will be on Seesaw. Please send in your responses through Seesaw for us to celebrate in class.
P.E
PE will continue to take place every Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child attends school in a full PE kit with their name clearly labelled.
PE kit consists of a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black PE pumps. Children may wear black jogging pants and a jumper in the colder months.
Water bottles, snacks and spare clothes
Your child can bring in a water bottle with WATER ONLY. This can be accessed by your child throughout the course of the day to ensure they stay hydrated.
Snack and milk can be purchased through the school office or a healthy snack can be sent in from home daily.
Please ensure you have a spare set of clothes all names with wellington boots and an outdoor coat every day.
🍂 Our Autumn Learning in Reception
This term, Reception children will begin their exciting school journey by learning all about themselves, their families and their new school community. We will explore what makes each of us special, develop friendships and learn how to express and manage our feelings.
As the seasons change, we will investigate Autumn and the Woodland, exploring the natural world and discovering woodland animals, habitats, weather and seasonal changes. Through stories, songs, role play and outdoor learning, children will develop their vocabulary, confidence and curiosity.
📚 Reading & Phonics
We will enjoy a wide range of stories, rhymes and non-fiction texts while developing listening and speaking skills. Children will begin learning their Set 1 sounds through Read Write Inc., practising oral blending, segmenting and reading words that match their phonics knowledge.
🔢 Maths
Children will develop their understanding of numbers to 5, including counting, recognising quantities, comparing groups and exploring one more and one less. We will also investigate shapes, patterns and measures through practical and playful activities.
🌱 Understanding the World
We will learn about our families, the people in our community and special celebrations, including Harvest, Diwali, Bonfire Night, Remembrance and Christmas. Children will also explore Autumn, observe changes in nature and investigate woodland animals and their habitats.
❤️ Personal & Social Development
A key focus will be becoming confident and independent learners. Children will learn to make friends, take turns, share, manage their feelings, solve problems and persevere when things are challenging. We will also develop independence with self-care, healthy choices and everyday school routines.
🎨 Creativity & Physical Development
Through painting, drawing, collage, modelling, music, dance and role play, children will have lots of opportunities to express their creativity. We will also develop gross and fine motor skills through outdoor play, movement, climbing, balancing, ball skills and activities that strengthen the muscles needed for writing.
We are looking forward to a wonderful Autumn term filled with new experiences, exciting discoveries, stories, friendships and lots of learning through play!
