Computing at Lewis Street
Computing opens the gateway to the modern digital world. Our curriculum equips children with the computational thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity needed not just to navigate the future, but to shape it. With a strong foundation in Computer Science, pupils learn how digital systems work, explore the core principles of information and computation, and gain hands-on programming experience. We believe that to thrive as confident learners and responsible digital citizens, children must be able to interact purposefully and safely with technology.
Our Core Strands
Our computing curriculum is structured around four fundamental threshold concepts:
- Computer Science: Understanding principles of logic, systems, abstraction, and algorithms through practical coding and debugging.
- Information Technology: Learning how to generate, store, manipulate, retrieve, and present digital content and data across multiple platforms.
- Digital Literacy: Developing functional fluency with technology, software, and everyday digital tools.
- Online Safety: Equipping pupils with the knowledge to navigate online spaces safely, respectfully, and critically.
Learning in the Classroom: Purple Mash
We utilise Purple Mash to provide a rich, interactive platform where pupils can:
- Design, write, and debug their own programs using block coding and script-based tools.
- Create, manage, and explore digital content across diverse media formats.
- Develop vital research skills, learning how to search the web efficiently, verify information, and protect personal privacy.
- Online safety and digital citizenship are embedded across both our Computing and PSHE curricula. Pupils are taught how to recognise potential risks, behave respectfully online, and confidently report unacceptable content or behaviour.
Home & School Learning: Seesaw
Through Seesaw, children can easily access learning tasks both in the classroom and at home. It provides a creative digital learning portfolio where pupils celebrate their achievements, reflect on their progress, and share their work directly with teachers and parents.
What Our Pupils Say

— Year 3 Pupil
"I really enjoy showing off my coding skills and debugging my own games."
— Year 4 Pupil
"Computing is going to be really important for my future job when I grow up."
