Welcome to Year 3!

We are so excited for the year ahead and have lots of fantastic learning planned for the children throughout the Autumn Term!

English

In English, we will explore a range of exciting texts, including:
The Lion King
The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl
The Spider and the Fly by Mary Howitt
The Watcher by Jeanette Winter
We will use these texts to develop the children's reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar skills.

Maths

During the Autumn Term, we will focus on:
Place value
Addition and subtraction
Multiplication
We are hoping to begin our multiplication unit before Christmas. You can really support your child at home by regularly practising counting in multiples of 2, 5, 10 and 3. The Hopscotch songs on YouTube are a brilliant and fun way to support this learning!

Geography

Up until the October half term, our Geography topic explores the question:
Why do people live near volcanoes?
We will learn about volcanoes and consider both the positive and negative effects of living near them. We will also explore the layers of the Earth and learn how earthquakes are formed.

History

After the October half term, we will travel back thousands of years to explore the Stone Age, discovering what life was like for people living in prehistoric Britain.

Art & DT

In Art, we will study the work of Andy Goldsworthy, exploring his famous sculptures and the way he uses natural materials to create art.
After the October half term, we will move on to Design and Technology, where we will explore textiles and design and make our very own cushions!

Science

In Science, we follow a spiral curriculum, which means that throughout the year we revisit and build upon learning across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

PE

Our PE days during the Autumn Term are:
Tuesday and Wednesday
Please ensure that children come to school wearing their full PE kit on these days.

Reading at Home

Children are expected to read every night at home. Please record this in their reading record and ensure that they bring it into school each day to show their teacher the following morning.
Regular reading at home makes a huge difference to children's fluency, vocabulary and understanding.

Homework & SeeSaw

A homework project will be shared via Seesaw approximately two weeks before the end of each half term. This will give children an opportunity to consolidate and celebrate some of their learning from school. Please make sure you are connected to Seesaw so that you can see exciting pictures of what is happening in school. It is a great way to connect with teachers by sending messages.

Water bottles

All children can bring a named water bottle into school and leave this at the sink throughout the day. No juice is allowed - water only.
